Overview

The Main Section includes properties that most users will change when creating a new Gedcom Publisher file. Some of the properties in the Main Section also appear in other sections with related properties.

Properties

Title

Use the Title property to define the title for your book.

Title (File As)

Use the Title (File As) property to define the sort title for your book. This title is stored in the metadata for the book. If you submit the book to an online publisher, it may use the "File As" version of the title for sorting the book by its title.

If your book is named "The Curious Missing Ancestor", you might set the Title (File As) property to "Curious Missing Ancestor, The". That way, the book will sort under the Cs and not under the Ts.

SubTitle

Use the SubTitle property to define the subtitle for your book.

Use the SubTitle as necessary to expand on, or explain, the book Title. For example, in The Houghton Genealogy: The Descendants of Ralph and John Houghton of Lancaster, Massachusetts, the title is The Houghton Genealogy and the subtitle is the rest.

Choose Data File...

Use the Choose Data File... button to select the GEDCOM file or TMG project to process.

When you click the button, Gedcom Publisher will open a standard Windows "open file" dialog window. Navigate to the folder that contains the GEDCOM file or TMG project you want to process, select it, and click the [Open] button. Gedcom Publisher will load the selected file.

If you save the Gedcom Publisher file after you choose a data file, the path to the data file is stored in the Gedcom Publisher file and it will be loaded automatically the next time you open the Gedcom Publisher file.

Author

Use the Author property to define the author of the book. This is typically your own name.

Author (File As)

Use the Author (File As) property to define the sort version of the author's name. This value is stored in the metadata for the book. If you submit the book to an online publisher, it may use the "File As" version of the title for sorting the book by its author.

If the author's name is "John Doe", set the Author (File As) property to "Doe, John".
