Overview
The New Container item is an optional Person Entry item you may add to control formatting when using a sequence of Person Entry items that all use the same container.
When a Person Entry Item creates content of the same type as the previous content, the new content is added to the same container as the previous content.
For example, when using a grid-type Format, several Person Entry items create a row with two columns in an HTML table. The table is the container. When two or more consecutive Person Entry items create a table row, Gedcom Publisher will add them to a single HTML table.
There are two ways to separate Person Entry items into more than one container.
- You can add a checkmark to the New Container property of a Person Entry item. The item's content will start a new container even if the prior output uses the same container type.
- You can add a New Container item between Person Entry items where you want a new container to begin.
The second approach is convenient when there are several Person Entry items in a row, all of which may or may not produce output. If you put a checkmark in the New Container property of the first item that should start a new container, and that item does not produce any output, the sequence of items will be in a single container. However, if you add a New Container item before the first of the items that should be in a new container, the first item that produces output after the New Container item will trigger a new container.
